01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Sliding open the wooden door of Meguru on a quiet lane in eastern Tokyo reveals a relaxed interior lined with vinyl records and gentle background music. Set inside a renovated kominka (traditional wooden house), the cafe features table and counter seating alongside a rear tatami room, offering a calm retreat from the surrounding streets.
Spiced Curries and Braised Mains for Lunch
The lunchtime standout is the Bangladesh chicken curry, generously spiced and stewed until the chicken falls apart in tender shreds, delivering gentle heat alongside deep, warming flavor. The kitchen goes well beyond standard cafe fare, also offering hearty slow-cooked dishes such as house borscht, tender braised spare ribs, and cabbage rolls. Lunch options include a mini salad and a drink, making them a satisfying midday choice.
Thoughtfully Brewed Coffee, Teas, and Desserts
After a meal or for an afternoon visit, the signature Meguru Coffee features Rwandan beans washed individually by hand prior to roasting. The resulting hot brew is smooth and balanced, with a rounded body and minimal bitterness, served in a dedicated single cup. The tea list is equally considered, spanning caffeine-free green rooibos and gently sweet honeybush tea, served by the pot alongside a small sweet. Desserts such as fruit-and-nut cassata provide a pleasant accompaniment to a quiet drink.
